Assessing Toxicity Levels of Vitamin E Acetate in E-liquids with Human Buccal Cells and SF9 Cells
Back in 2020, I got invested with the increasing rates of vaping in youths. In my high school, too many teenagers were addicted to this electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS). This not only had great impacts on their physical health but also on their mental health and their school performances. Arriving at Collegial international Sainte-Anne, I realized that the rates were probably worse in this new environment. The Honours Science program, gave me the opportunity to get involved in this subject to, maybe, find a way to influence a couple vapers to change their bad habits.
During this internship, I had the opportunity to familiarize myself with the whole process of academic science. I executed all the background research necessary for the understanding of this experiment, build my own protocols based on previous research and even presented to a bioethics committee. As can be seen on the page Symposium and Interviews this project was presented during a Symposium at the Pharmacology and Therapeutics Department at McGill.

This internship also permitted me to familiarize myself with more advanced procedures such as mammalian and SF9 cell culture, working under a laminar flow hood, ELISA protocols, spectrophotometry and cell counting. This internship lasted 3 weeks (from April 20th 2023 to May 12th 2023)
