Internships

In the past few years, I participated in 3 internships concerning the medical field. I had the opportunity to shadow a nurse, a surgeon and a Doctor without Borders. Each and every one of these experiences opened my eyes about different aspects of the healthcare system and taught me about the importance of unity, teamwork and devotion. It really encouraged me to continue in this field of career.

Volunteering

I've always loved to get implicated in my community. That's why I did many hours of volunteering as a student. In high school, I was part of a tutoring program and passed minimum 3 hours per week helping younger students of my school. Also, every year, before COVID hit, I would dedicate 50 to 70  hours of my time to the Cancer Research Society, and to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. I can't wait to start again!

Some Extra Courses

I also took many extra classes in high school such as 7 years of Spanish classes and an extra biology class. These two courses gave me many opportunities to grow culturally as mush as intellectually. Spanish class opened my eyes about the world and its different cultures and the biology class gave me the chance to effectuate labs I never thought were even possible. Here is me and my friends during a DNA extraction.

A Weird Experience

Back in 2020, I had an accident that created pressure unto my nervous system. I had to undergo many tests and treatments to concider have a normal life again. This experience taught me to be resilient and to persevere in life. It also made me realize the faults of the health care system, thus making me even more determinate to work in it to bring my touch of joy to it.

My journey in the Healthcare System

After two years of searching for some answers, I finally got the surgery I needed. 2022 was a year of diagnosis and healing. Our healthcare system might have some loopholes, but it's filled with so many good hearts and big brains that it all works out in the end. Through the ups and downs of recovery, the team that followed me was the best. They made the experience so much more remarkable. I am now three months post-op and I can say that this surgery made me realize that the people working in healthcare are the ones making the difference.

When Work Doesn't Feel Like Working

During my sabbatical year, I had the pleasure to start working at Verdun's Hospital. I am "préposée au service alimentaire sur les unités de soins". Meaning I take care of delivering the meals to the patients and help them if they need anything during that time period. It is a really rewarding job since I get to see some people at their most vulnerable. I always try to bring an ounce of joy with my smiles. I got to really see what it is like to work in the healthcare system with the over time, the shortage of staff and of equipment, the administration and procedures that just can't seem to end, etc. Despite all of this I would still choose to have a career in healthcare, because it will forever my passion and where I feel the most at home.
